III International Conference "Grain Industry in the 21st century"

In the work of Third International Conference «Grain Industry in the 21st century», held by the Russian Grain Union on November 20-22, 2012 in Moscow together with the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, International Industrial Academy, International Grains Council, Grain and Feed Trade Associationtook part more than 200 representatives from 23 world countries including Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, USA, UK, Argentina, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Egypt and other countries.  

Gold sponsorship of the conference was provided by Swiss company «Buhler», Silver – by Schyolkovo Agrokhim, and the Bronze sponsor was Ingosstrakh Insurance Company. 

Within the conference agenda such issues as challenges of the global market of grain and flour, investment in the agricultural sector, peculiarities of government regulation of the grain industry in Russia, meaning and consequences of Russia’s accession to the WTO in the context of agriculture were discussed.

November 21, 2012 

The first day of conference work started with the grand opening of the event by the organizers – President of the Russian Grain Union Arkady Zlochevskiy and President of the International Industrial Academy Vyacheslav Butkovskiy. The greeting ceremony was then proceeded by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Ilya Shestakov and Chairman of Committee on Agrarian Issues of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Romin Madinov. A welcoming speech was performed by the gold sponsor of the conference, Swiss company "Buhler", in the face of its regional manager Adrian Spahr. The conference work continued with the plenary session dedicated to global grain market – main development drivers, long-term trends and peculiarities of the current season. The session was opened by the report ofDeputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Ilya Shestakov. In his speech Mr. Shestakov highlighted the problems of state regulation of the grain industry, spoke on grain intervention and presented prospects for the Ministry of Agriculture for the season. After the speech Mr. Shestakov was awarded the medal «For merits in development of the grain market of Russia».

Integration processes in Eurasia were covered in the report of Sergey Sukhov, Deputy Head of the Department of Agroindustrial policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission. The plenary session was then continued by President of the Russian Grain Union Arkady Zlochevskiy who expressed the view from Russia on the world grain market. Chairman of Committee on Agrarian Issues of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Romin Madinov talked about joint policy of Kazakhstan and Russia in wheat export as the basis of global leadership for both countries.

The session was continued by the report of Senior Agricultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow/USDA Levin Flake who covered consequences and experience of draught in 2012. Afterwards Alberto Volpato, Counsellor for Health, Consumers, Agriculture of Delegation of the European Union to Russia, mentioned what lessons Russia got from the evolution of the EU grain sector support.

The session was finalized by the reports of the General Director of AMBIKA-AGRO Boris Rozenwald, dedicated to investments in Russian agriculture, and Project manager of the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine «Promotion of International Trade» Irina Kobuta with her presentation «Ukraine in WTO: first results for the agricultural sector».

The first day of the conference was continued by holding the General Meeting of the Russian Grain Union members and thematic sections dedicated to importance of technology and equipment from «Buhler» for grain elevator complexes and new requirements to quality and properties optimizing of flour, safety of grain and grain products. 

  

  

 

 November 22, 2012 

The second day was continued by the plenary session dedicated to technological challenges of the 21st century where their reports presented Head of The Black Sea Biotechnology Association Alexander Golikov, Director of the Institute of Economics and Sociology of Argentina Eugenio Julio Cap, Vice President of Agro Corporate Business, Swiss Reinsurance Company Ltd Olexander Artyushin and Head of Agrarian insurance management of Ingosstrakh Insurance Company Delyara Sangadzhieva. In their reports experts presented new technologies in the production of cereal crops, risk management in the supply chain of grain: from production to marketing. Special interest among the conference participants caused the report after Director of the Institute of Economics and Sociology of Argentina Eugenio Julio Cap where changes in technology of modern agriculture in Argentina were covered.

The session was continued by the Round table on legal aspects of the international grain trade. The reports were presented by Director of Kiev office of GAFTA Anna Golodova and General Secretary of International Arbitration Chamber of Paris Irina Guerif

The conference work was continued by plenary session «New technologies of grain storage and processing» where such issues as new requirements for the quality and optimizing of flour properties while its production and deep processing and storage of grain were discussed. Their reports presented Secretary General of the International Association for Cereal Science and Technology (ICC) Roland Poms, who revealed in his presentation the International Monitoring and Control Systems for Cereal and Food Quality and Safety, Director of the Russian State SRI of Grain Crops of Russian Agricultural Academy Lidia Machikhina, who showed the issues of safe grain storage in Russia, and Area Manager of the Italian company OCRIM SPA Danilo Carloni, presenting the audience both the report and colorful video. The baton was picked up by General Director of Unigrain company Alexey Dyumulen who vividly expressed the current state of the processing industry in Russia, prospects for its development by a particular example.

The session «New technologies of grain storage and processing» moderated by Rector of the International Industrial Academy Andrey Ovechkin was finalized by Professor of the International Industrial Academy Oleg Novitskiy.

The final conference session was fully dedicated to Black Sea grain market. General Director of ProZerno Vladimir Petrichenko showed in his presentation drivers of situation development of Black Sea grain and oilseeds markets in 2012/13. Head of Agriculture Production Department of Inspectorate R Vitaly Smirnov told the audience about Black Sea grain quality in the new season.

The situation on grain markets of Ukraine and Kazakhstan and Russia’s concern to it was transmitted by Head of Foreign Trade Department of Ukraine Khlib Investbud Andrey Druzyaka and President of Union of Grain Processors of Kazakhstan Evgeny Gan.

At the end of the session Vice-president of the Russian Grain Union Alexander Korbut who acted as a moderator almost throughout the whole event, asked for comments to the speakers. The discussion was also attended by Deputy General Director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies Irina Glazunova

In the mass media the ñonference was covered by such news agencies as Bloomberg, Reuters, RosBusinessConsulting, RBC-daily, as well as by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta, World Grain, etc. The TV-broadcasting was effected by RBK-TV and Agro-TV. 

Third International Conference «Grain Industry in the 21st century»was closed on November 22 night by the gala banquet party.
