VII International Grain Trading Conference

On October16-19, 2012 

under the auspices of: 

the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, 

the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, 

Administration of the Krasnodar Territory, 

Ministry of Agriculture and Melioration of Egypt 

took place VII International Grain Trading Conference 

“Global and Middle East grain outlook 2012” in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt 

 

The Conference was visited by more than 150 representatives from 19 countries including Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, USA, Great Britain, Switzerland, Germany, France, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria and other countries. 

General sponsorship was regularly provided by the largest Egyptian agrarian holding ABO DONKOL, sponsorship – by Louis Dreyfus Alexandria Ltd. 

In the Conference frameworks the world’s leading experts from major grain producing countries provided estimates of the current state and trends of the situation at the world grain market, major results of 2011/12, freight market development prospects and its impact on grain market, covered the impact of the situation at financial markets on grain market, problems of risk management in the international grain trade, legal aspects of grain supply to the Middle East countries. Possible scenarios of production, consumption and world grain trade development, considering population growth and global climate change, development of programs for food security provision both in the Middle East region and world over.

October 17, 2012 

 

In the frameworks of the session “World grain market: condition, prospects, new season trends” such world’s leading experts as Zsolt Vincze (R.J. O’Brien, USA), Nomani Nasr Nomani (GASC, Egypt), Sayed Elmeslemany (Actava Trading, UAE) analyzed current state and trends of the situation development at the world grain and wheat market both in the Middle East and globally.

Legal aspects of grain trade, practice of resolving disputes between parties covered Dr. Matthew Parish (Holman Fenwick Willan, Switzerland).

Particular interest among the Conference participants caused the Round table of grain market experts “Current situation at the world wheat market: expectations of both exporters and importers. Scenarios for changes in grain prices and positions of the main exporting countries in the second half of the season”. To the previous speakers added the CEO of Soyuz Commodities (Switzerland) Peter Biermann and Managing Director ofLouis Dreyfus Alexandria Ltd. (Egypt) Hesham Maksoud

The first day of the Conference ended with an international tournament of the Russian Grain Union in beach volleyball with the participation of heads of federal executive bodies regulating the agro-industrial complex globally and the world’s leading experts in grain market! 

 

October 18, 2012 

 

The second Conference session was totally dedicated to the Black Sea grain trade at the Mediterranean market in the current season. However the session started with another topic “Biotechnologies in agriculture – new risks and opportunities” covered by the Head of The Black Sea Biotechnology Association Alexander Golikov. The peculiarities of Russian grain export potential, its development prospects were in detail covered by the President of the Russian Grain Union Arkady Zlochevskiy

On behalf of the Ukraine farmers talked the Head of Foreign Trade Department of Khlib Investbud Andrey Druzyaka whose report was followed by Deputy Head of Federal Centre for Grain and Grain Products Safety and Quality Assurance Tatiana Korzun covering Russian grain quality and safety.

Really fascinating was the Round table on the topic “Black Sea grain exports – trends and forecasts”. The moderator, Vice-President of the Russian Grain Union Alexander Korbut, professionally asked questions to the panelists, among them was General Director of the Novorossiysk Grain Terminal Igor Andreev. In the discussion also took part Chairman of Botrans Ltd. Laslo Sabov, Head of Foreign Trade Department of Khlib Investbud Andrey Druzyaka, CEO of Soyuz Commodities (Switzerland) Peter Biermann and the President of the Russian Grain Union Arkady Zlochevskiy.

The General informational partner of the Conference was “Interfax”, the Official informational partner – Zerno On-Line. In the mass media the Conference was covered by such news agencies as Bloomberg, Reuters, RBC-daily, as well as by the World Grain, etc. President of the Russian Grain Union Arkady Zlochevskiy was interviewed by Russia Today TV channel. He told about Russian grain export prospects to the countries of the Middle East and North Africa. 

VII International Grain Trading Conference “Global and Middle East grain outlook 2012” closed in the evening of October 18 with the gala dinner party where traditional awarding of the Conference sponsors was held, in the fashionable and most popular night club “Caligula” of the “Savoy Hotel Sharm El Sheikh” with the participation of the Cuban Band!
